A big congratulations to Sheree Forward, our Administration and Emergency Services Coordinator on 5 years service with the Shire of Coolgardie.
Sheree is a valued member of the team and an active community member.
We asked Sheree a few questions about her time with the Shire.
What was you first position at the SoC ?
Casual Admin Support for Emergency Services
What other roles have you held at the SoC ?
Administration Support for Rangers, Waste, Administration Support for HR/Governance , Emergency Services Adminictration.
What do you enjoy most about working at the SoC ?
What I enjoy most about working at the SoC is that The Shire is so family-friendly. I don’t have to drive 30 minutes to work—so no more feeling like I’m living in the car. I get to be home every afternoon with my kids, which is great because I can finally answer the eternal question, “What’s for dinner?” before they lose patience. But honestly, the best part is the people I work with. They make every day full of laughter, and we’re like a big family—minus the awkward holiday dinners and weird uncles.
What do you hope to achieve while working at the SoC ?
While working at the SoC, I hope to help ensure that our community is fully prepared for any emergency. Whether it’s through proactive planning, training, or support, I want to contribute to building a resilient community that can respond effectively and stay safe when it matters most.
What are some of the highlights of your career ?
There haven’t been any big, standout moments in my career, but honestly, I think the best part is that every day is never the same. I enjoy the challenges that come my way, and it keeps things interesting and exciting. Each new situation brings something different, and I love finding solutions to keep things moving forward.
What tips can you give to anyone thinking about working in Administration or Emergency Services ?
My tip for anyone thinking about working in Administration or Emergency Services would be to stay adaptable and ready for anything. Both fields can throw curveballs at you, so having a positive attitude and being flexible is key. In Administration, attention to detail and organisation go a long way, while in Emergency Services, staying calm under pressure and being able to think on your feet is crucial. Above all, remember to stay connected with your team—working together is what makes everything run smoothly!
What initiatives or projects are you most proud of, and how have they positively impacted the residents and businesses within the Shire ?
One initiative I’m most proud of is helping our seniors recognise what to do in an emergency and giving them the tools to be prepared. It’s so rewarding to know that we’re making a difference by ensuring they have the knowledge and resources they need to stay safe. It’s all about empowering people and giving them peace of mind.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future of the Shire of Coolgardie, and how do you envision your role in contributing to that future?
My aspiration for the future of the Shire of Coolgardie is to see it continue to grow as a vibrant, well-prepared community that can handle any challenges that come its way. I hope to play a part in making sure we’re always ready for emergencies and that our residents and businesses feel supported and informed. Whether through improved emergency preparedness programs or community engagement, I envision my role as helping to strengthen our resilience.
