Tender awarded for Wye River street reconstruction

Wye River residents and visitors will have a smoother and safer drive with the upcoming rehabilitation of Morley Avenue.

Colac Otway Shire Council is renewing and resealing 594 metres of Morley Avenue, including reconstruction of the intersection of Morley Avenue and McRae Road to improve safety and visibility.

The works will ensure a safe road for local community and visitors through a narrow, steep and winding road.

Council has awarded a tender to Pearson Plant to carry out the work, following a comprehensive tender evaluation process.  Pearson Plant is an experienced civil contractor who has significant experience in undertaking works of this nature.

Work is due to start in February 2025 after the summer holiday period and is expected to be complete by the end of June.

Access will be provided for residents and visitors during construction. Waste collection will not be affected.

Council’s General Manager Infrastructure and Environment Doug McNeill emphasised the importance of investing in renewal of roads in the coastal townships. “It is acknowledged that a number of streets in our coastal townships are in need of surface improvement, and this is reflected in this year’s Council budget”, he said.

“Aside from Morley Avenue, Council is also funding the reconstruction at Wye River of Koonya Avenue, The Boulevard and a part of Wallace Street. These works are in the design phase and will be put to tender later this year”.

“This is in addition to the reconstruction of Council managed roads in Apollo Bay at Pengilley Avenue and Pascoe Street this financial year, and represents a significant investment in the coastal communitys’ infrastructure.”
