Emerald Resource Recovery Centre – Temporary closure

Posted on February 7, 2025

Central Highlands Regional Council advises that due to a critical equipment failure at the Emerald Resource Recovery Centre (RRC), the facility will be temporarily closed for general waste, scrap metal, cardboard, and building rubble disposal this weekend Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February, 2025.

During this period, the centre will continue to operate for green waste only.

All general waste, scrap metal, cardboard, and building rubble can be taken to Lochlees Landfill at 73 Lochlees Road, Emerald. Lochlees will be open from 7.00 am – 5.00 pm over the weekend, and additional staff will be on-site to assist with waste disposal. Please note we have been monitoring the site and it is currently only accessible via 4WD due to soft muddy grounds

Customers are requested to follow on-site staff instructions at Lochlees Landfill for proper disposal.

To ensure safe operations at the drop-off area, only customers wearing enclosed footwear will be permitted to access the site.

Central Highlands Regional Council will be monitoring operations throughout the weekend. We may need to close if the conditions worsen.

General waste, scrap metal, cardboard, and building rubble disposal services at the Emerald RRC will resume on Tuesday 11 February 2025. Please note that delays are expected as the waste pit may not be immediately fully operational.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to restore full services as quickly as possible. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
