Wyndham City’s free light festival, LIT will make its spectacular return to Werribee this Autumn, over 14 magical nights from Thursday – Sunday, 27 March to 13 April.
As the sun goes down, Wyndham Park will be transformed into a glowing, dreamlike canvas, filled with giant iridescent bubbles and towering wildflowers, glowing animal sculptures, fantastical trees, projections and more.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Mia Shaw said the free, family-friendly event would feature a new program of stunning light installations to explore along with extended opening hours and Sensory Friendly Nights.
“The 2024 festival received an award for Creativity and Culture at the National Awards for Local Government last year, and this year brings fresh new experiences.”
“This year we’re excited to be able to extend LIT’s opening hours and make the most of those longer nights, with an earlier start time of 7pm. For the first time, LIT will also coincide with the first week of the school holidays, providing even more opportunities for families to enjoy the fun.”
“Part of the magic of LIT is every year is different, with a new program of incredible installations to enjoy,” Cr Shaw said.
“This year’s festival will include the stunning Ephemeral Collection by Atelier Sisu, featuring more than 50 larger-than-life iridescent bubbles that radiate colour and sound along with The Guardians – a huge installation celebrating Australian wildflowers by Matthew Aberline of The Beautiful and Useful Studio.”
“There will be glowing animal sculptures from The Lanternist to discover down beneath the trees, along with the breathtaking Tarutharu - The Kaurna Skink, a 27-metre-long glowing sculpture created by A Blanck Canvas in collaboration with Elizabeth Close Arts and Jack Buckskin, as a representative of the Kaurna Peoples.
“LIT will also feature the debut of Ctrl-Alt-Self by Studio John Fish, a dreamy new GOBO light walk by Wyndham artist, Ariadne Concha and magical slide projections designed by local students.” Cr Shaw said.
Following last year’s success, the Sensory Friendly Night program has been expanded along with a new quiet sensory space to help make LIT as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone to enjoy.
Cr Shaw said that she was very proud to see the impact of LIT in Wyndham, which was attended by 75,000 people last year and recognised with the Creativity and Culture Award at the National Awards for Local Government.
““It’s fantastic to see LIT continue to grow and evolve as a signature event for our City, providing free, high-quality creative experiences for our community in their own backyard and providing a boost for local businesses.”
“With LIT located just a short stroll away from Watton Street – it’s the perfect opportunity to love your local and make a night of it and enjoy dinner from one of our amazing local restaurants, bars and takeaway businesses in Werribee City Centre.” Cr Shaw said.
