The Parramatta community is set to enjoy travelling along a grand boulevard that connects Parramatta Square to the Parramatta River. The accessible path will be delivered over four large city blocks. Council’s Civic Link Block 3 will be an upscale, green spine, with mature trees and native gardens that will transform our City.
The key design elements
Civic Link Block 3 is designed around environmental sustainability, connectivity, and reducing urban heat.
As well as connecting to transport, the Parramatta River, and the future Powerhouse Parramatta, it will create a cool space for people to enjoy sitting surrounded by gardens, grabbing a quick coffee, lunching, shopping or socialising.
The design for Civic Link Block 3 includes:
The Green Spine: stretching over 130m, the planted centre of Civic Link Block 3 includes 38 mature trees forming a green canopy and gardens filled with more than 3,000 native plants. The Ribbon: customised street furniture threads through more than 60m of the Green Spine, changing along the path to create diverse seating options. The Water Story: A design feature that directs and harvests local run-off. Raingardens will support healthy plant growth and improve water quality before releasing water to the Parramatta River. Pedestrian Boulevard: Widened paths accommodate anticipated increases in people enjoying Civic Link and its connections to transport, the Parramatta River and the future Powerhouse Parramatta. The wide path ensures access for maintenance vehicles and emergency services. The design also incorporates smart lighting and CCTV along with dynamic and static wayfinding.Changes to traffic arrangements
To bring Civic Link Block 3 to life, changes to traffic flow and on-street parking are required.
