Cairns Regional Council will next month honour the incredible women shaping our community with the 2025 International Women’s Day Awards.

This highly anticipated event will recognise outstanding individuals who lead, uplift, and empower those around them, making a lasting impact in various fields.

At Tanks Arts Centre on Saturday 8 March from 11am, the event promises to be a morning of inspiration, recognition, and celebration.

Awards will be presented in three categories: Woman of the Year; Young Woman of the Year; and the Women’s Recognition Award.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Sarah Blasko, who will join the event for an intimate Q&A session.

Known for her soulful voice and profound storytelling, Ms Blasko will also treat guests to a special live performance, adding a touch of musical magic to the occasion.

“I’m so delighted to be back in Cairns to play a show at Tank Arts Centre after such a long time – and even more so to know that I’ll be there performing on International Women’s Day,” she said.

“It’s still so difficult in so many ways to be a woman in music even though we always say it’s easier these days.

“The truth is that women still need all the support & encouragement they can get to persevere in a very tough industry.

“There are so many amazing, young women in music that inspire me just as much as I could ever inspire them and I’m always ready to spread the word.”

The event will offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, complete with a glass of sparkling on arrival and a delicious brunch.

Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said it is a chance to come together, celebrate women’s achievements, and reflect on the progress towards gender equality.

“This event is about recognising the incredible contributions of women in our region and inspiring future generations to lead with courage and passion,” she said.

“We’re thrilled to have Sarah Blasko join us for this celebration, bringing her own powerful story to the conversation.”
