Huon Valley Council will soon begin construction of a pedestrian crossing outside the Cygnet Town Hall.

The crossing to be installed in March is in the form of a raised table and is in addition to the recent speed reduction (from 50km/h to 40km/h) aimed at increasing the safety of pedestrians crossing Mary Street.

This collaboration reinforces the Council’s commitment to delivering infrastructure improvements that benefit the Huon Valley community and encourage active transport, such as cycling and walking.

Council is working closely with the Department of State Growth and the community to move forward with projects under the Vulnerable Road User Program.

Mayor Sally Doyle commended Council staff for their dedication and praised the strong partnership with the state government.

“Our Council team is working hard for the people of the Huon Valley, advocating for projects that prioritise safety and accessibility for our community,” said Mayor Sally Doyle. “This process highlights the value of partnerships between local and state governments in delivering meaningful and impactful outcomes for our region.”

The Huon Valley Council remains committed to advocating for funding and improvements that directly enhance the safety, quality of life, and accessibility for both residents and visitors. Updates on both the Mary Street projects and ongoing grant initiatives will continue to be shared as progress continues.
