Parramatta’s Prince Alfred Square will transform into a family fun zone with the return of the i4Give Festival on Saturday, 1 March.
This year marks five years since the tragic deaths of Danny and Leila Abdallah’s three children Antony, Angelina and Sienna and their cousin Veronique Sakr, when struck and killed by a car while they walked to get ice cream at Oatlands on 1 February, 2020.
The 2025 program is held in their memory and aims to remind everyone of the power of forgiveness and encourage people to be kind and compassionate. This year’s event will feature food trucks, amusement rides, family activities and a petting zoo to promote in the campaign’s positive spirit.
There will also be screening of the ABBA-inspired film Mamma Mia! to finish off the day.
City of Parramatta Cr Martin Zaiter said he pays tribute to the Abdallah and Sakr children.
“This inspirational event represents the best of our community, promoting the powerful message of forgiveness and compassion,” Cr Zaiter said.
“In the face of such tragedy, it’s incredible that the Abdallah family continue to give back to the Parramatta community. I admire their strength to forgive and enable others to follow in their footsteps.
“I hope to see our community unite in support, enjoying the festivities and singing along to Mamma Mia!”
I4Give Foundation co-founder Leila Abdallah is encouraging everyone to come along and enjoy the day.
She said this year also marked the launch of the ‘4 Steps of Forgiveness’ - a new initiative to help sufferers identify how to forgive those who have hurt them, and what to do next.
"Forgiveness is not a feeling, it’s a choice we make every day,” Mrs Abdallah said.
"The ‘4 Steps of Forgiveness’ help us walk this journey with grace."
The ‘4 Steps of Forgiveness’ are:
Acknowledge the hurt and its impact Accept what cannot be changed Surrender the pain to find peace; and Voice your choice to forgive. Each step begins with the initials of each of their children’s names Antony, Angelina, Sienna and their cousin Veronique.
The film Mamma Mia! is rated PG.
