Take a peek at Parramatta from the City’s new $1.4 million lookout

Views of Parramatta’s picturesque City skyline has reached new heights with the opening of the $1.4 million Dixon Park Escarpment Lookout.

This once unused piece of parkland on the cliff-top opposite Parramatta Quay, has been transformed into a must-see destination for locals and visitors keen to capture an Instagram-worthy view of the Parramatta River and the CBD.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the lookout is the latest attraction to put Parramatta on the tourist map.

“Some of the world’s most visited cities have spectacular viewing points and now Parramatta has joined the list with our new lookout providing panoramic views of our City and the river stretching from Gasworks Bridge to Lennox Bridge,” Cr Zaiter said.

“It complements the Escarpment Boardwalk and the recently completed Charles Street Square and Parramatta Quay, which have been recognised with landscape design and architectural design awards.

“I look forward to seeing visitors flock in on the ferry to take in the sensational views and locals enjoying the amazing sunrises, sunsets and special event fireworks on offer from this top new viewing spot.

“Dixon Park Escarpment Lookout adds to the list of amazing locations in Parramatta for wedding and engagement photos, so it’s set to become the backdrop of treasured memories for generations to come.”

Located at Stewart Street Reserve on the northern side of the Parramatta River, the Dixon Park Escarpment Lookout is safe and accessible, features a cantilevered platform structure, new paths, seating, trees and gardens, promoting relaxation, celebration, reflection and enjoyment in a picture-perfect setting.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government’s contribution of $500,000 through the Places to Roam program has helped transform the Parramatta City skyline.

“Parramatta is one of Sydney’s fastest growing LGAs and it is vital that open space areas such as Dixon Park are supported so the local community have a place to relax and play,” Mr Scully said.

“This project has breathed much-needed life into what was previously an underutilised reserve and will directly benefit more than 2,100 homes located within a 10-minute walk of the new lookout.

“The Dixon Park Escarpment is now a truly unique cultural and scenic destination for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

This project was funded by City of Parramatta Council, the NSW Government’s Places To Roam program and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
