Council offers residents meetings with CFO to discuss SRV

Federation Council is offering residents the opportunity to book individual meetings with its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to discuss the proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV) application, currently under assessment by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART).

Recognizing the complexity of the SRV, which proposes a cumulative 69.94% increase to general rates, Council is committed to providing residents with clear and comprehensive information. This initiative complements the ongoing pop-up information sessions and the recently distributed shire-wide mail-out.

“We understand that rate increases can be a source of concern and confusion for our community,” said Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook. “That’s why we’re going the extra mile to provide personalised opportunities for residents to understand the SRV and how it will impact their individual rates.”

The one-on-one meetings with the CFO offer residents the chance to:

Receive a personalized explanation of the proposed cumulative 69.94% increase. Discuss the specific impact on their property by bringing their rates notice. Get direct answers to their questions in a private and confidential setting. Access information if they are unable to attend the scheduled pop-up sessions.

“We want to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to fully understand the rationale behind the SRV and the essential services it will support,” Mayor Cook said. “This is about transparency and open communication, and we encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The SRV is crucial for addressing years of underfunding and ensuring the continued delivery of essential services, particularly the maintenance of the region’s road network.

“We’ve made significant cost savings, but these alone are not enough to address the backlog of infrastructure maintenance and the rising costs we face,” Mayor Cook explained. “This rate rise, if approved, will allow us to further achieve progress in respect to our essential works and plan for the future of our growing community.”
