Cardinia Shire Council is partnering with the Victorian Government to deliver a new kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) facility for Lang Lang.
Minister for Children the Hon Lizzie Blandthorn and Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale visited Lang Lang on Wednesday to announce the partnership and $3 million in Victorian Government funding to build the new Lang Lang Kindergarten on a Council-owned site in Oxford Street.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik welcomed the Victorian Government’s announcement.
“We are grateful for the Victorian Government’s support and look forward to working together to deliver this wonderful new facility in Lang Lang as part of our Building Blocks Partnership to enable us to provide additional funded kindergarten places,” Mayor Kowarzik said.
“The new kindergarten will feature two kindergarten rooms, allowing us to provide a total of 118 kinder places for local families in the Lang Lang area.
“Our growing population in Cardinia Shire creates demand for new facilities for our young residents and their families to enjoy.
“I’m confident the new kindergarten will be a wonderful space for local families to get support and create new memories, and for our young residents to learn, connect and build new friendships.”
As part of the Building Blocks Partnership with Cardinia Shire Council, the Victorian Government will design and construct the modular building that will include 2 kindergarten rooms, one consulting room, outdoor play space and off-street car parking.
Cardinia Shire Council recently completed road upgrades in Oxford Street that will provide safe and easy access to the new kindergarten. Works included upgrading Oxford Street from an unsealed and unmarked road into a dual lane access road and construction of a new footpath and on-street parking.
Westernport Ward Councillor Trudi Paton said the new facility was great news for the Lang Lang community.
“Once completed, this new facility will enable more families in Lang Lang to access kindergarten places close to home,” Cr Paton said.
“The new kinder will help meet the needs of Lang Lang families now and into the future, with more kindergarten places and new and improved facilities.”
It is expected that the new kindergarten will open for the 2026 school year. Council’s existing kindergarten service provider, Early Childhood Management Services, will relocate to the new centre.
