The City of Hobart is calling for input from residents, community organisations, businesses, schools and anyone interested in the proposed location of a Sandy Bay passenger ferry terminal.
A preferred location for a new public ferry terminal at Lords Beach in Sandy Bay was presented to Hobart City Council in December last year and initial plans are now out for community consultation.
So far, the plans include a kiosk, toilets and bike storage as well as charging facilities for e-bikes and e-scooters but community will be asked what else should be considered.
Additional lighting on the ferry terminal and kerbside is also included as part of the plans, which will increase public safety and amenity.

Quotes to be attributed to Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds:
"The ferry service from Bellerive to Hobart has been wildly popular with more than 120,000 ferry trips taken in just the first year of operation.
"We want to rapidly expand ferry services with a new terminal in Sandy Bay that will create better public transport options for eastern shore students travelling to school at Mt Carmel College, Fahan School and The Hutchins School.
"A passenger ferry terminal at Sandy Bay would open up better commuter options for staff and students at the University of Tasmania and make it easier for visitors to our beautiful city to get around.
"A Sandy Bay ferry terminal would also help to ease traffic congestion in both Sandy Bay and over the Tasman Bridge as more eastern shore residents commute by ferry."
Quotes to be attributed to Mount Carmel College Principal Megan Richardson:
“A ferry service at our doorstep would enhance accessibility to Mount Carmel College, strengthening connections between our school community and surrounding areas while providing a safe, scenic, and sustainable transport option.
“This alternative would not only reduce congestion in the very busy Sandy Bay area but also offer families a chance to connect and enjoy the journey together.
“Imagine the joy of starting the school day with fresh air, ocean views, and the excitement of a ferry ride—turning the daily commute into an adventure!"
