Statement about removal of tree on Branksome Gardens City Beach

Published on 07 March 2025

The Town of Cambridge is aware of the incident where a mature tree on private property in City Beach was in the process of being removed on Friday 7 March 2025. The Town had previously been liaising with the property owners with the intent of preventing the removal of the tree.

The Town’s position is the tree was not authorised for removal.

Town officers attended the property on 7 March and verbally directed workers to stop work on the tree removal.  Workers refused and continued works.  Police were also in attendance due to community concerns.

Town officers collected evidence and will be reviewing as part their continuing investigation to determine next steps.  As this is now a compliance investigation we will not be commenting further.

Any community members that witnessed today’s event, have photo or video evidence or are willing to provide a statement, should contact the Town of Cambridge.

The Town appreciates this is distressing for the community who have worked hard alongside us to protect trees on private property and appreciate the calls from concerned community members that advised us during the day.
