The Town of Bassendean is running several programs to aid residents in greening the Town of Bassendean. Urban greening provides a range of benefits for the community, including cooling urban areas, improving air quality, reducing runoff and improving water infiltration into the ground, and a positive impact on mental health.
2025 Plants to Residents and Trees to Residents
Bassendean residents are encouraged to embrace waterwise gardening with the annual launch of the Town’s Plants to Residents Program. The Town’s Plants to Residents Program offers residents the opportunity to purchase up to 20 native, waterwise plants at a subsidised rate of $1 per plant each through Enviro House. The program aims to promote sustainable gardening practices while enhancing the beauty of gardens in our community. By opting for native plants that thrive in local conditions, residents can conserve water and create vibrant, eco-friendly gardens that help cool the local environment, provide habitat linkages and increase mental health.
Want to use your plant allocation to start a waterwise verge, but not sure where to start? Enviro House is putting on a joint session for City of Bayswater and Town of Bassendean residents on planning a waterwise verge garden: Planning a Waterwise Verge Garden - for City of Bayswater & Town of Bassendean Residents
This initiative is proudly co-funded by Water Corporation’s Waterwise Greening Scheme and forms part of our ambition for Town of Bassendean to be a leading waterwise city
In 2025 the Town is launching a new Trees to Residents Program, where residents can purchase tickets for trees (200mm pot size) at a subsidised rate of $5 per tree, for planting within their property.
A limit of five trees per property applies, subject to availability. Please seek agreement from the property owner before purchasing tickets.
The Trees to Residents Program aims to assist in increasing our tree canopy cover to 30% by 2040, contributing to urban cooling, biodiversity and other benefits.
