Dear Residents and Ratepayers
The Shire has recently had to make decisions that differ from its usual approach impacting certain programs and services. We understand that these changes affect the community, and we want to provide clarity on the situation.
The Shire is experiencing financial constraints due to a reduction in revenue from key assets and existing debt obligations. In response, the Council and administration are taking proactive steps to stabilize our financial position and ensure the Shire remains sustainable in the long term. While some progress has been made, this remains a complex issue that will take time to resolve.
To guide the Shire through this period, Mr. Aaron Cook has been appointed as Acting CEO. Under his leadership, positive steps have already been taken, and further actions will continue. Mr. Cook is available to meet and discuss community concerns, though his primary focus is on addressing the current financial situation and supporting the administration in moving forward.
The Shire’s recovery plan includes increasing revenue, securing additional grant funding, reducing costs, managing debt, and reviewing service levels. While we recognize these changes are challenging, they are necessary to rebuild a strong and financially stable future for our community.
At this stage, we are unable to provide further specifics including the current ongoing investigation, but we remain committed to transparency and will share updates when possible. If you have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Cook, we encourage you to do so, and to welcome him during his time with the Shire of Coolgardie.
If you would like to arrange a time to meet with Mr Cook, please email [email protected] outlining what you would like to discuss.
We appreciate your patience and support for Shire staff as they work through these challenges and continue to serve the community.
