Pipe Layer/Labourer (Water & Waste)

The Role:

Our Pipe Layer/Labourer supports the Water Reticulation team in the delivery of quality water and waste services to the community by assisting with the maintenance, repair and construction of water and waste infrastructure.  This may include strenuous manual activities, operating mobile plant, maintaining underground utilities, working with live sewers and working in confined spaces.

This position calls for physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis.  It is the responsibility of the Pipe Layer/Labourer to ensure they are and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks.  This includes a requirement to maintain a weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) limit for the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate.  Maintenance of a safe working environment and application of correct manual handling techniques are also essential requirements for this position.

The Pipe Layer/Labourer is required to participate in the on-call roster for the Water & Waste section which involves after-hours and weekend call outs.

What we are looking for:

You will have a current MR class driver’s licence or be eligible to obtain one within 6 months of commencement You will need to be a physically fit and motivated individual who can undertake strenuous manual activities as well as general labouring duties to ensure quality water and waste services are delivered to customers and stakeholders You will be required to work throughout the Shire to assist members of the Water Reticulation team in the delivery of day-to-day maintenance services and water main infrastructure upgrades You will contribute and work well in a team environment and also be able to work with limited supervision You will have sound written and verbal communication skills and be able to follow both written and verbal instructions

The role is physically demanding and requires you to be physically fit and will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment
