Council seeks interest on surplus vacant land

Posted on March 17, 2025

Central Highlands Regional Council is inviting expressions of interest from potential buyers and developers for surplus vacant land across the region.

Mayor Moriarty said the initiative is an important step in unlocking new development and residential opportunities that will benefit local communities.

‘Council is committed to supporting sustainable growth and development in the Central Highlands,’ Mayor Moriarty said.

‘By identifying and releasing surplus land, we aim to encourage investment in much-needed projects, such as housing, aged care, and other essential infrastructure.

‘This initiative will also provide added options for residential property, helping to address housing demand and create more opportunities for families and individuals looking to call the Central Highlands home,’ she continued.

The initial expression of interest process will help inform future decisions regarding the sale and development of the land. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the real estate agent listed on the council website to submit their interest, feedback, proposals, informal offers and stay informed about upcoming sales opportunities.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer Aaron Johannson said engaging with potential buyers and developers early in the process will help ensure the best outcomes for the community.

‘We welcome feedback, proposals, and informal offers as part of this preliminary engagement,’ Mr Johannson said.

‘This approach allows us to shape the formal sales process in a way that meets market needs while also delivering long-term benefits for our region,’ he continued.

More information is available on the council website here, and council officers are available for discussions through our real estate agent.

Expressions of interest will remain open until 5.00 pm on 31 May 2025.
