On Tuesday 4 March 2025, council had the pleasure of welcoming Brent Mickelberg MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Sean Dillon Member of Parliament for Gregory, to discuss key infrastructure and transport priorities for our region.
Topics of discussion included:
Road Performance Maintenance Contract (RMPC) Funding – Ensuring our roads are maintained to a high standard. Resilience & Flood Mitigation Funding – Strengthening our infrastructure against future weather events. Vince Lester Bridge & Opal Street Intersection Upgrade – Exploring opportunities to improve safety and accessibility. Queensland Beef Corridors & Inland Freight Route – Enhancing vital transport links for our agricultural and freight industries. National Heavy Vehicle Regulator Compliance – Supporting safer and more efficient heavy vehicle movement. Type 2 Road Train Access to the Saleyards – Improving access for livestock transport.Mayor Janice Moriarty highlighted the importance of these discussions.
‘Our region plays a crucial role in Queensland’s transport and freight networks, and it’s vital we continue to push for the funding and infrastructure upgrades needed to support our communities, industries, and local economy,’ said Mayor Moriarty.
Council remains committed to advocating for funding and support to improve our region’s roads and transport networks. We appreciate the opportunity to discuss these priorities with the Minister and will continue working towards solutions that benefit our community.
