ALERT #20 - ACTION DUE TO INFRASTRUCTURE FAILURE DUE TO FLOODING

Charters Towers residents and the business community are advised Charters Towers has moved to a Level 5 water restriction - essential use only: drinking water, only flushing your toilet when necessary, showering (maximum 3 minutes).

This water restriction is in place due to the increase river height at the Charters Towers Weir, requiring the temporary water line at the Weir to be removed. This restriction is essential to ensure water supply is maintained.

What has happened to cause these restrictions?

Council is commencing the removal of the temporary intake line from the Weir due to the river height. Council is unable to make long term restoration works due to the ongoing river height.

Level 5 Water Restriction – Essential Use Only:

Drinking water Only flushing the toilet when needed Showering (maximum 3 minutes)

An emergency alert will be sent from the Emergency Alert number +61 444 444 444 and should be referred to for correct and current information.

Council will continue to monitor the situation closely.
