Our Koo Wee Rup community were out in numbers to celebrate the completion of the newly developed Bowls and Community Hub last Thursday.
Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik and Westernport Ward Councillor Cr Trudi Paton hosted the official opening that was attended by State Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale, Federal Member for La Trobe, the Hon Jason Wood, members of the Koo Wee Rup Bowls club, students from Koo Wee Rup Secondary College and family representatives of the late Ray Brown.
Mayor Kowarzik said the completion this project marks a significant milestone for the Koo Wee Rup bowls club and the local community.
“The former pavilion that was built in the late 1960s, has been completely revamped into a state-of-the-art facility that will better support its various users.”
The newly developed pavilion has been constructed using a modern modular build, with features including dedicated social, lounge and community rooms, separate kitchen and office spaces, first aid room, changerooms, toilet amenities and a large, decked area and spectator seating. A new car park and access paths to the site were also completed.
Westernport Ward Councillor Cr Trudi Paton is excited to celebrate the project completion for the club members and the wider community.
“The new community rooms provide marvellous meeting and activity spaces for Koo Wee Rup’s active community groups. Combined with the bright, modern and well fitted social spaces, this new building puts Koo Wee Rup on the map as a classy event space and Koo Wee Rup’s Bowls President, Tim will be keen to hear from anyone looking to hire it.” she said.
Mayor Kowarzik also acknowledged the significant contribution of those who brought this project to life.
“Thanks to the incredible work from our contractor, Modular by SHAPE, and the Koo Wee Rup Bowling Club, who collaborated with Council throughout the design and build stages of this project. Together with the investment of Council and contributions from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund we have an incredible facility for our Koo Wee Rup community to use now and into the future.”
As part of the redevelopment project, a community room in this new facility has been dedicated in the memory of the late Ray Brown.
“As a former Koo Wee Rup Bowling Club President, Cardinia Shire Council Westernport Ward Councillor, and Cardinia Shire Citizen of the Year, Ray played a pivotal role in securing the essential funding for this pavilion,” Mayor Kowarzik said.
“The room will serve as a lasting tribute to Ray’s remarkable life and the positive impact he has had on so many.”
