This year’s 76 finalists range from established to emerging artists, from Kununurra and Warmun to Bunbury and Carbonup River, with 15 Rockingham locals showcasing their works.
An enticing variety of media is included; notably painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography and mixed media.
Entries for the highly competitive prize were assessed by a professional arts panel comprising: Kieron Broadhurst, an interdisciplinary WA artist and academic at Curtin University; Pamela Gaunt, an acclaimed artist with a long-standing practice based in Perth; curator and emerging artist Zali Morgan, a Whadjuk, Ballardong and Wilman Noongar woman based in Perth/Boorloo; and Sandra Murray, Rockingham Art Prize Curator.
The selection panel was highly impressed by both the quantity and quality of the submissions. City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said, “We are thrilled by the diversity and excellence of the entries. The wide range of artistic styles and interpretations promises an engaging and inspiring exhibition for visitors.
We are really looking forward to showcasing the finalists’ artworks in our exhibition, which is always a standout event in our annual arts calendar.Returning for the eighth time, the prize provides the opportunity for artists to have their work on public display in a professionally curated exhibition and available for sale.
The winners of the City of Rockingham Art Prize will be announced on Saturday 14 June 2025 at the Art Prize Awards Presentation.
The exhibition will be open for public viewing from 14 June to 6 July 2025, 10am-4pm Wednesday to Sunday with free admission and parking, at the Rockingham Arts Centre, 11 Kent Street, Rockingham.
