Charters Towers Regional Council invites the community to provide feedback on the draft 2025-2030 Destination Management Plan (DMP), a strategic plan for tourism growth over the next five years.

The draft DMP has been developed with the assistance of consultants Stafford Strategy following an in-depth review of the current tourism landscape, incorporating insights from stakeholder consultations and a consultant-led analysis.

Councillor Julie Mathews stated that Council is committed to ensuring that the Region continues to be a vibrant and attractive destination for visitors.

“This plan will guide Council’s efforts to strengthen the tourism industry, and we want to hear from the community to ensure it reflects local aspirations and priorities,” said Cr Mathews.

The Plan aims to enhance the Region’s tourism sector by focusing on key priorities that will drive visitation, strengthen the local economy, and create long-term benefits for businesses and the wider community.

Key focus areas of the 2025-2030 DMP include:

Creative Spirit – Reflecting the arts and cultural heritage of the region and celebrating its unique identity. Foundations for Growth – Building a sustainable and thriving tourism sector through essential projects Life on the Land – Highlighting the rich agricultural heritage and celebrating the lifestyle, offering visitors authentic connections. Outback Adventure – Embracing the rugged authentic charm of the region. The Golden Future – Celebrating the enduring connection to gold, bridging its historic legacy with ongoing and future mining. Timeless Tales – Bringing the rich history of the Region to life and telling stories.

Community feedback was sought in the planning of this document, and it is now important for residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the draft plan and again share their thoughts.

“Whether you have ideas, concerns, or suggestions, your input will help shape a thriving tourism future for the Charters Towers Region,” added Cr Mathews.

The draft DMP can be viewed on Council’s Have Your Say portal, where feedback can also be submitted - visit https://haveyoursay.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/destination-management-plan.   Hardcopies will also be available at Council’s Administration Centre, Excelsior Library and Visitor Information Centre.

The opportunity to provide feedback will close on Wednesday, 9 April 2025.
