Charters Towers Regional Council remains committed to delivering the much-anticipated Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool Redevelopment.

Recent updates to the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program (rPPP) guidelines prompted Council to submit a new funding application to align with the revised program framework.

Deputy Mayor Kate Hastie advised that these updates include an extended project completion date to 31 March 2027, refined eligibility criteria, and a requirement for projects to demonstrate strong collaborative partnerships.

“Council is proactively responding to these changes to maximise the potential for securing the necessary funding”, said Deputy Mayor Hastie.

“We know how important this project is to our community, and we are doing everything we can to ensure it progresses.

“With the updated guidelines, resubmitting our application will give us the best chance of success and help us deliver a modern, accessible aquatic facility for Charters Towers.”

Council acknowledges the ongoing support of the Queensland Government through the $7.8 million Regional Community Infrastructure Fund (RCIF) grant.

Deputy Mayor Hastie advised that while awaiting the outcome of the rPPP application, this funding remains in place.

“We anticipate knowing the outcome of our rPPP application within the next three months.

“If we secure full funding, we will proceed as planned, however, if we are unsuccessful, we will reassess and explore options to utilise the $7.8 million RCIF grant to deliver a component of the precinct.

“Our goal is to ensure the best possible outcome for our community, and we will keep residents informed as the project moves forward.”

Council will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
