Cardinia Shire Council is hosting practical workshops to support residents with bushfire preparedness.
Workshops are aimed at properties with a bushfire risk between 1 and 10 hectares and will focus on landscape cool burning techniques. Participants will develop a greater understanding of:
Safety and Legal requirements when undertaking a planned burn. Common planned burning and firefighting equipment. Fuel assessment process. How to prepare control lines using a rakehoe. Identifying assets of value and potential hazards. The safe use and maintenance of rakehoes and drip torches. How to undertake mop up of the site and ensure all fuels are safe. Workshops will be held outdoors and (if conditions are suitable) a demonstration burn will be lit. Participants will need to wear suitable clothing and familiarise themselves with the site safety instructions.
It is recommended that participants have completed all online modules on the Bushfire Prepare website, prior to the workshop.
