Albany businesses are being encouraged to take part in free Disability and Inclusion Awareness Training next month as part of the ongoing Good Access is Good Business project.

Delivered by Inclusion Solutions and supported by the City of Albany, Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Department of Communities, the workshops are designed to help local businesses create more accessible and inclusive environments.

Research by Monash University shows that every dollar invested in accessible environments can deliver up to $13 in returns for businesses.

These workshops build on earlier engagement and will support businesses to better understand the needs of people with different levels of mobility and ability.

City of Albany Manager Community Relations Elise van Gorp said the sessions would be practical and supportive.

“Accessibility isn’t just about physical infrastructure—it’s about awareness and mindset,” Ms van Gorp said.

“These workshops will help staff and business owners identify simple, everyday ways to make their spaces more inclusive. “It’s a small time commitment that can make a big difference for our whole community.”

Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry interim CEO Tracey Bridges said businesses benefit from creating welcoming and accessible spaces.

“Great customer experience means being able to engage with a business online and instore easily – a customer shouldn’t have to have a Plan B up their sleeve just in case,” Ms Bridges said.

“Increasing your inclusivity increases repeat patronage, and more accessible businesses are more attractive to a broader customer base.

“These sessions will give practical insights that staff can put into practice straight away.”

Two sessions will be held on Wednesday, May 21 at the City of Albany Civic Rooms, 102 North Road: Session 1 from 1.30pm to 4pm and Session 2 from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Bookings are essential via Albany.wa.gov.au/bookable. For those unable to attend in person, an online seminar is also available by emailing [email protected].
