The City of Fremantle will be trialling a change to the opening times of the Fremantle Library at Walyalup Civic Centre.

From Monday 28 April the new opening hours will be 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Currently, the library opens and closes an hour later.

There will be no change to weekend opening hours or public holiday opening hours.

Data and analysis of patronage entry times to the library show there is a substantive drop off in numbers from 5pm-6pm, and more so from 6pm-7pm.

The average number of patrons in the library between the hours of 9am-10am is 91 people, with many people regularly queuing as early as 8.30am on weekdays. The average number of patrons in the library between the hours of 6pm-7pm is only 35 people.

The City hopes that by opening an hour earlier, the intent is to provide better community access to facilities and services.

The new library opening times will align with the opening time of the Walyalup Civic Centre building and the customer service front counter.

At the completion of the six-month trial, a review of the patronage usage and feedback will be conducted to determine if the hours should be changed permanently.
