Snowy Monaro Regional Council will implement level 2 water restrictions for residents in Bredbo and Cooma.

Due to the prolonged dry weather conditions, flows to the Murrumbidgee River from the Tantangara Dam have decreased. As a result, there is less available water at the Bredbo and Cooma water treatment plants and reservoirs.

Residents in Bredbo and Cooma are advised as of 12.00pm on Saturday 4 January, level 2 water restrictions will be in place until further notice.

These restrictions will apply to all properties connected to the Cooma and Bredbo water supply schemes.

More stringent restrictions may be imposed should conditions fail to improve.

Under Section 637 of the Local Government Act 1993, a person who wilfully or negligently wastes or misuses water from the public water supply, or causes any such water to be wasted, is guilty of an offence for which the maximum penalty is a fine of $2,200.

Council thanks the community for their cooperation and for conserving water. For any enquiries regarding these restrictions please contact 1300 345 345.
