Australia Day Public Holiday Events and Services

On Sunday, January 26th, 2025, join us at Jellicoe Park from 8am for the Moree Plains schedule of events.

Moree 

8:00am                Free Breakfast BBQ – Join us at Jellicoe Park, Moree for a free breakfast from the Moree Lions Club.

9:00am                Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony – Join us in welcoming Ms. Linda Sparrow, co-founder and president of Bangalow Koalas, as our 2025 Moree Plains Shire Australia Day      Ambassador. Together with Council and the community, let's celebrate individuals who have made remarkable contributions to their communities and warmly welcome those taking the pledge to become Australian citizens.

11:00am             Waterloo Creek Massacre Memorial Walk from the Moree Courthouse to Jellicoe Park –This march holds significant importance as it memorialises the tragic Waterloo Creek Massacre,      fostering remembrance and honouring the lives affected by this historical event.

12:00pm             Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ Survival Day event at Jellicoe Park Moree – Please join Council and Community in acknowledging the rich cultural heritage of Australia's First            Nations people and a time of reflection on the impact of European colonisation on Indigenous communities.

 Weemelah

Australia Day breakfast at the Weemelah Hall, Sunday 26 January commencing 8am. Come for a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausages, eggs, toast, tea and coffee ($10 per person).

Services

As Australia Day is a national public holiday, Council would also like to advise all residents of the following changes to services and facilities on the public holiday on Monday 27 January 2025.  You can continue to contact Council 24 hours a day on (02) 6757 3222 for our after-hour’s telephone service, including on public holidays.

Waste Services  Kerbside Garbage, Recycling and Organics Collection

Residents are advised that kerbside garbage and recycling collection will operate as normal for the Australia Day Public Holiday on Monday 27 January 2025.

Landfills Moree Waste Management Facility - Monday 27 January 2025 - 9am to 1pm Mungindi - Closed

Community Services  Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre

The Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC) will remain closed over the long weekend period of Australia Day.

Mungindi Municipal Pool

The Mungindi pool will operate at normal hours over the Australia Day long weekend period.

Bank Art Museum Moree

The Bank Art Museum Moree will be closed and reopen Tuesday 28 January 10am to 1pm.

Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre

The Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre will be closed Friday 24 January, 5pm and reopen Tuesday 28 January 2025 at 10am.

Gwydir Day Care and Preschool

Gwydir Day Care and Preschool will be closed on Monday 27 2025 and reopen Tuesday 28 January 2025.

Library Services

The Moree Community Library will open on Saturday 25 January 2025 from 10am to 12pm and reopen Tuesday 28 January 2025 at 10am.

Moree Regional Airport

Moree Regional Airport will operate as usual.

Ranger Services

The Moree Pound and Administration Services will be closed from 5pm Friday 24 January 2025 and will reopen 9am Tuesday 28 January 2025. For emergencies, please contact our after-hours service on (02) 6757 3222 - 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Tourism Moree

Tourism Moree will be open Monday 27 January with reduced hours, 9am to 1pm.

Water Filling Station, Moree Depot, Tycannah Street

Council’s Depot including the Water Filling Station will be closed on Friday 24 January 2025 and reopen Tuesday 28 January 2024.
