Liverpool’s Bigge Barbeque celebrates Australia Day

Liverpool is celebrating Australia Day by firing up the barbie in Bigge Park as one of the nation’s most culturally diverse communities celebrates this national milestone. The Council will also be holding a Citizenship Ceremony in the morning.Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said local communities benefitted from councils performing Citizenship Ceremonies on Australia Day."It is very symbolic because the formal Australia Day is the day we celebrate being Australian and living in the best country in the world."I received my citizenship on Australia Day, and it gave my decision additional significance.Mayor Mannoun said the barbie will be fired up as the people of the city celebrate not only it’s diversity but the love for Australia that’s led tens of thousands of people from 150 nations to call Australia - and especially Liverpool - home.Mayor Mannoun said Liverpool’s celebrations would reflect the community’s cultural diversity.“Our backgrounds will be suspended as we gather under a symbolic green and gold umbrella to give thanks for being part of this wonderful, unique colourful country with its engaging and positive future,” he said.“We know what a blessing it is to live here.
