Council Approves Naming of Nth Deniliquin Reserve & ‘Flo Allen Park

Published on 20 February 2025

The Edward River Council has officially approved the naming of the crown reserve previously known as the ‘North Deniliquin Tennis Club’ to ‘North Deniliquin Reserve’, reflecting the broader range of uses the reserve has served over the years.

In addition, within the reserve, the area of the former tennis courts will be named as ‘Flo Allen Park’, in recognition of the significant contributions made by Mrs Flo Allen to the North Deniliquin Tennis Club over the years.

The renaming announcement comes after a public consultation process in 2024.

New signage will be placed at the entrance to the parking area as well as along Davidson Street. Interpretive signage will also be installed, acknowledging Mrs Allen’s dedication and the history of the area as a tennis facility. This move honours her tireless efforts and deep connection to the local community.

The naming of the truck stop area within the reserve will follow a separate renaming process, as public consultation has not yet been carried out regarding names that would specifically reference transport or trucking.

This process will be undertaken in due course, ensuring community input into the decision.

Mayor of Edward River Council, Cr Ashley Hall was pleased with the outcome of the consultation process, saying, “This is a wonderful way to honour Flo Allen’s legacy, as well as to recognize the significance of the North Deniliquin Reserve to the local community. These changes reflect the growth and history of the area, and we look forward to engaging the public further on the naming of other sections of the reserve.”

The Council is committed to preserving and celebrating the rich history of the Edward River region, and the recent decision marks another step toward a future that honours the contributions of local residents.
