City of Parramatta has been recognised as a 5-Star Employer of Choice in Human Resources Director Australia’s national ‘Best Employer to Work for’ list this week, the only Local Government organisation in the country with more than 500 employees to be listed.

Employers of choice were judged based on an anonymous staff survey evaluating workplace benefits including compensation, culture, employee development and commitment to diversity and inclusion where nominated organisations achieved a 75 per cent satisfaction rating or above.

Flexible work options, bonus or incentive programs, generous paid leave allowance, access to excellent technology, employee reward and recognition programs and family-friendly benefits such as paid parental leave, carer’s leave and subsidised childcare were top priorities in the survey results.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said Council was up against some of the most recognised private and public sector organisations in Australia and around the world, making it one of the best places to work.

“We have world of opportunity here in Parramatta, with great transport connections, award-winning facilities and amazing destinations for arts and culture, food, sports and entertainment,” Cr Zaiter said.

“It’s all part of our global vision to make Parramatta a place where people choose to live, work and play.”

City of Parramatta chief executive Gail Connolly PSM said this incredible achievement is proof that Council’s people-first approach to employee experience is leading the next generation of public sector professionals.

“We received a 30 per cent increase in job applications in 2024 with more than 18,000 submissions received – that’s almost double the number of applications received in the last two years,” Ms Connolly said.

“This is proof that City of Parramatta is a great place to start and continue your professional career.

“It’s why we have flexible work arrangements, developed initiatives including our Health and Wellbeing and Diversity and Inclusion programs, all-staff conferences and innovative technology to provide staff with the tools so they can be the best version of themselves.”

The prestigious title comes after Council received two gongs for the Best Use of Technology and Best Health and Wellbeing Program categories at the 2024 Australian HR Awards, the Local Government Excellence Award for People, Workplace & Wellbeing in 2024, and the Best Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Program at the Australian HR Awards in 2023.
