Landholders have a great opportunity to be informed of the principles of tactical grazing management at an upcoming two-day workshop, where they will also be encouraged to share their own knowledge and experience.The workshop, which is being run by Western Local Land Services and NSW Department of Primary Industries, is being held at “Curragh”, 40 km north of Oxley on 9 and 10 September.Over the two days the participants will cover the principles of tactical grazing management, including pasture and livestock production, and planning for changing seasonal conditions.Skills obtained from attending the workshop include: measuring groundcoverestimating the amount of forage and determining stocking ratesestimating the digestibility of feedjudging how well animal requirements are being metidentifying key pasture speciesmonitoring utilisation level of key perennial plant speciesestimating shrub cover and the impact on potential pasture growthassessing livestock — fat scoring sheepsetting up a long-term monitoring system.
