NSW Government on the right track with Trackless Trams

13 November 2019Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller welcomed the NSW Government’s move to investigate Trackless Trams as a potential transport option in the Greater Sydney area.“Liverpool City Council is already investigating trackless tram technology for the future public transport connection between Liverpool city centre and the new Western Sydney International Airport,” Mayor Waller said.“Known as the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) Corridor, Council sees a real potential for Trackless Trams to provide a high quality, zero-emissions public transit connection along this 19km corridor.”Liverpool City Council has entered into a research partnership with Curtin University and renowned sustainability academic Professor Peter Newman AO to better understand the role that Trackless Trams might play in delivering a high quality transit spine through Liverpool local government area.“Council has recently started design investigations for the upgrade of Hoxton Park Road and Fifteenth Avenue, which form the corridor between Liverpool city centre and Western Sydney International Airport,” Mayor Waller said.“Council has also strongly advocated to the NSW Government that existing projects, such as the Hoxton Park Road upgrade, should be designed to enable this type of future rapid transit connection.”Ensuring this connection is in place in time for the opening of the new Airport is a commitment of the Western Sydney City Deal between eight Western Sydney Councils, the NSW Government and the Commonwealth Government.More information on the FAST Corridor is available at: https://www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/development/major-projects/fifteenth-avenue-smart-transit-fast-corridor
