MPs Paul Lynch and Anne Stanley; Clr Nathan Hagerty, representing Mayor Wendy Waller; Clr Charishma Kaliyanda; Clr Geoff Shelton; Clr Peter Harle; MP Peter Sidgreaves; Camden Clr Paul Farrow; and South West Sydney Academy of Sport athletes.Liverpool City Council has celebrated the achievements of young local athletes from the South West Sydney Academy of Sport in a special ceremony held at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.“Council is a proud Foundation Partner of the South West Sydney Academy of Sport and 2019 marks the 22nd anniversary of our relationship,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.“Our recent ceremony was an opportunity for us to recognise the fantastic achievements of more than 50 young athletes and their coaches in fields as diverse as AFL, basketball, golf, netball, softball and triathlon.“Sport is a wonderful way for people to connect with one another and for young athletes, sport can teach the importance of teamwork, perseverance and leadership.”Mayor Waller said Council remained proudly committed to providing the best facilities and opportunities for young athletes and the wider community.“Council supports local sporting organisations through our Sporting Donations Program and Sporting Grants because we recognise how important it is to promote health and fitness in the community,” Mayor Waller said.“Our city also has the infrastructure to support residents in keeping active too, with more than250 parks and open spaces, as well as 22 outdoor gyms.“A number of these are scheduled for future upgrades to provide even greater facilities for the community, with new parks being planned for our city’s growth areas.“The most recent addition to our parks is Casula Parklands, which features inclusive play equipment for all ages and abilities, a ninja training course and separate off-leash dog parks for small and large dogs.”
