New rules for digital signage

New rules for digital signage Published: 28 Aug 2019 Council has endorsed new rules for advertising devices including digital signs, which aim to protect the character and amenity of the region, while providing options for businesses and organisations to promote their offerings. The new rules support digital signs in appropriate locations, but will still restrict digital signs on residential streets; areas with sensitive environments; and identified character precincts, such as Palm Cove, Edge Hill, Freshwater, Stratford and beachfront areas.Council’s Local laws will regulate all advertising devices and the Planning scheme will regulate the installation of advertising devices on a Place of significance (heritage place).Council encourages businesses to take the opportunity to review their signage to remove old or damaged signs to improve the effectiveness of signage for their business. An audit of digital signs in the region will be undertaken to ensure digital signs have the right permits and comply with the new rules.
