Howard Smith Wharves, 5 Boundary Street, Brisbane Sunday, April 25, 2021, 6 – 11:30pm Brisbane City Council has an extensive public art collection of approximately 500 diverse objects, ranging from large-scale, contemporary sculpture to integrated bespoke elements located throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.
These four artworks are: Judy Watson artwork, ‘water under the bridge tumamun’, curated by Blaklash Projects Jenna Lee’s artwork ‘Breathing Spaces’, curated by Blaklash Projects Hailey Atkins artwork, ‘Whither Weather’, curated by Alex Holt and Sarah Thomson Phoebe Paradise artwork, ‘Subtropical Surreal’, curated by Alex Holt and Sarah Thomson About the artist: Judy Watson is an internationally recognised, prolific artist based in Brisbane, with work held in public collections such as the National Gallery of Australia, the British Museum and the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
Judy Watson artist statement: moving water tracing time the black holes in our education unknown to me when I grew up here we are told get over our history it’s water under the bridge move on leave the past behind stones dropping into water slowly a punctuation a breathing space the river is scarified it runs with the blood of memory we are here listening Hear Judy discuss the work with Museum and Contemporary Art.
