Funding builds Western Downs arts community

25 August, 2021 Western Downs Regional Council is backing local artists as part of a longstanding partnership with the Queensland Government to promote the role and value of arts, culture and heritage in the region.  As part of this year’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), Western Downs Regional Council has received $20,000 to support local community-driven arts and culture initiatives.   Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the RADF had delivered fantastic outcomes for the region.  “We are so proud of our passionate and dedicated arts community and funding like RADF offers an opportunity to explore new ways to help grow the arts across the Western Downs,” Cr Maguire said.  “The RADF has supported so many amazing initiatives in our community such as the Wandoan RSL Subbranch’s Soldier Settlers storytelling project and the Miles Regional Arts Council’s script development workshops.  “Applications are open for the current RADF round, and I encourage individuals and community groups to apply for this great opportunity.”  Minister for the Arts, Leeanne Enoch said the Palaszczuk Government is investing $2.08 million through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) in 2021-22, matched with a contribution of approximately $2.3 million from 59 councils across the state.   RADF is a great example of working together to deliver our COVID-19 economic recovery plan, supporting employment opportunities and creating new arts and cultural experiences in local and regional communities,” Minister Enoch said.       “RADF in 2021–2022 will provide valuable social, health and economic outcomes for regional Queenslanders, and support our Government’s 10-year arts roadmap priorities to strengthen Queensland communities, activate local places, and drive social change across the state.”  “Our investment complements the Palaszczuk Government’s wider commitment to regional arts, including continued support of $6 million over four years for the Regional Arts Services Network (RASN),” she said.  To find out more about Council’s grants and funding opportunities visit www.wdrc.qld.gov.au.
