Gympie Regional Libraries are hosting WriteFest 2021 from Friday, 10 September to Sunday 12 September.
The event is designed for anyone who loves Australian literature and wants to learn more about what inspires our nation's authors.
The weekend is packed with workshops and a wide variety of activities including writing, author talks and learning tools to unlock your creative potential.
On Friday, 10 September from 10am, join one of Queensland’s best-loved children's writers, Chris Collin, at Gympie Library. Chris will perform his new book The Things You Can Do with Blue Whale Poo. At 1pm, join Charlotte Barkla, author of the Edie’s Experiments series and All Bodies are Good Bodies. Then at 6pm, we talk online to Kyle Perry, bestselling breakout author of The Bluffs, as he discusses his new a heart-stopping thriller set on the rugged coast of Tasmania about family bonds and betrayals, and the hidden dangers that lurk in the deep.
On Saturday, 11 September from 10am, join Alienor le Gouvello at Gympie Library as she talks about her new book Wild At Heart. The story follows Alienor and her horses on a three-year journey stretching an extraordinary 5330 kilometres from Healesville in Victoria to Cooktown in tropical Far North Queensland. From 1pm, we have Julie Fison online as she talks about her books, as well as showing us how we can write your own stories. Then at 3pm, a fabulous line-up of historical fiction authors will discuss their works, writing and more in an online Q&A panel hosted by Nicola Robinson. Jaclyn Crupi, author of Garden Like a Nonno, will be uncovering the secrets of the green-thumbed nonnos in a special online gardening talk at 6pm.
On Sunday, 12 September at 10am at Gympie Library, we have author Janet Lee in a Queensland Writers Centre workshop. Learn how to get deep inside the minds of significant characters and better understand their motivations, choices and psychological state. At 1pm, join us online for a fabulous Rural Romance Q&A panel hosted by Rachel Johns. To round out the weekend, listen to Sandie Docker online at 6pm as she discusses her fourth novel, The Wattle Island Book Club.
