Have your say on sports precinct development proposal

Details Last Updated: Thursday, 25 August 2022 09:31 Published: Thursday, 25 August 2022 09:10 Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting the community to have its say on an infrastructure development proposal for the Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct project.TRC Environment and Community Committee Portfolio Lead Cr Tim McMahon said Council was moving forward with plans to deliver the Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct (TRSP) at Charlton.“The TRSP will provide for the staged delivery over a number of years of a high-class, regional sports facility that promotes the social and economic well-being of the community,” Cr McMahon said.“The project will address the existing shortage of developed sports land for the Region and will profoundly influence the future sporting endeavours of Toowoomba and the Darling Downs Region.“The TRSP will be developed over seven stages and on completion will include 20 sporting fields catering for football (soccer), rugby league, rugby union, Australian Rules Football, cricket, softball, baseball, shooting, and archery.“The precinct will also include a premier hub, with change rooms, clubhouse amenities, food and drink outlet/s and spectator seating, a district park and open space recreation areas.”Cr McMahon said Council was seeking approval for the development of the TRSP through a Local Government Infrastructure Designation Process (LGID) approval mechanism under s.37(6) of the Planning Act 2016.“An LGID over the site will facilitate and streamline the staged-development of the precinct over the minimum 10-year development period,” he said.“The LGID process involves the preparation and assessment of an Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) which demonstrates that the impacts of the development can be managed or mitigated.“The process also involves statutory and non-statutory consultation with stakeholders, the community and the State Government.”Cr McMahon said Council was encouraging the community to provide feedback on the LGID proposal by lodging formal submissions by the close of public consultation on 21 September 2022.For more information about the TRSP and the LGID proposal, please go to the Your Say website: yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au (search for Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct). To lodge a proper submission on the LGID proposal, please email your submission to [email protected] or mail your submission to:Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct Consultation, Toowoomba Regional Council, PO Box 3021, Toowoomba QLD 4350.Subscribe to our media releases
