Charters Towers Regional Council are on the hunt for their next Camp Host, willing to extend their stay in Charters Towers and call the local Showgrounds their home during the upcoming tourist season.

Tourist numbers are predicted to be on the rise in the Charters Towers Region with last year’s annual tourism statistics showing the months of June/July to be the peak tourism period for the region.

As the busy period approaches, visitors are being encouraged to include the Charters Towers Region in their trip.

Council is calling for expressions of interest for a Camp Host to manage the Charters Towers Showgrounds, located less than 1km from the Charters Towers CBD.

Councillor Julie Mathews, who has recently been allocated the tourism portfolio said the town was already starting to bustle, seeing an increase in visitors.

“There is no minimum stay period required however applicants committing to longer periods will be looked upon favourably.

“It is a perfect way to experience our region, meet fellow travellers and get a feel for some of our local characters”, said Cr Mathews.

Charters Towers is brimming with amazingly rich and significant history and heritage.

Being only 90 minutes’ drive from QLD’s famous coastline at Townsville, and a stop along the renowned Overlanders Way, Charters Towers is surrounded with endless things to see and do.

This volunteer position would especially suit a retired or semi-retired person/s and comes with a free powered site for the duration of the Camp Host’s stay, (June – August) allowing for the successful applicant to further explore the region and immerse themselves in the local community.
