Charters Towers Regional Council is showing its commitment to community by advocating for a Regional University Study Hub which will require the support of a working group to drive the project.

Council is seeking expressions of interest from Community members wishing to join the Charters Towers Country University Centre Working Group.

The Charters Towers Country University Centre Working Group is to support the initial Regional University Study Hubs Program application in Charters Towers.

Regional University Study Hubs are innovative in creating educational opportunities for regional and remote students without having to leave their community.

“There are currently 46 Regional University Study Hubs located throughout Australia, across all states and Northern Territory”, said Mayor Schmidt.

“Charters Towers is a great educational hub already attracting students and families from across the country and this addition, will bring further prospects.

“The idea of delivering this great resource to our young and existing community members is exciting for the future of our Region.

“As it stands, so many young people who could contribute to our community are being lost to the big cities.

Council is hopeful that the study hub will deliver infrastructure including Study Spaces, Break Out Areas, Video Conferencing, Computer Facilities and High-speed Internet Access in addition to Administrative and Academic Support Services.

Applications for the working group are now open and close Friday, 2 August.
