Young people to have a say on the future of Cairns

Young people to have a say on the future of Cairns

Cairns’ young people can have their say on Council’s priorities through the 2024 Our Cairns Youth Survey. The survey, which seeks the views of locals aged 14 to 24, is now open via our website and will close at 6pm on Friday 20 September.Complimenting the broader Our Cairns survey, the youth-focused questionnaire hones in on the pressing issues of today, while seeking thoughts on how the city can better support the day-to-day needs of young people and their aspirations for the future.Survey results will be benchmarked against findings of the inaugural 2020 youth survey and analysed alongside the broader Our Cairns Survey results.Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said the Our Cairns Youth Survey would help Council make decisions in the best interests of the next generation.“I love to see young people get involved in Council’s decision-making,” she said.“This survey is a chance for our youth to let us know what’s important to them, so we can prioritise activities and programs that not only support their future but encourage them to stay in our region.“As our emerging and future leaders, it’s vital they can have their say on what will make Cairns an even better place to live.”The Our Cairns Youth Survey is being backed by the Cairns Youth Council, which will help drive interest among high school students.
