Makerspace arrives at Cleveland Library

Cleveland Library is about to throw open the doors to its dedicated creative area – Makerspace.Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the project involved the transformation of space within the library for creative equipment such as 3D printers, Cricut makers, a laser cutter, photo scanner, 8mm film convertor and sewing machines.“It is a great initiative that offers an extra level of engagement for our library customers,” she said. The Makerspace open day at Cleveland Library will be Wednesday 14 August 2024 during library hours which are 9am to 5pm.To use the space people will need to be a member of Redland City Council Libraries, aged 12 or older, and will have to undergo an induction on the equipment they plan to use, the Mayor said.“Library staff will provide a basic introduction to the equipment and a safety rundown to get you going,” she said.“It will be up to community members to build their creativity and skills, but the sky’s the limit.“Makerspace will be an organic space that hopefully will grow its own connections and support circles.”This project has received financial assistance from the Queensland Government through State Library of Queensland.Division 2 Councillor Peter Mitchell encouraged local residents to take advantage of the Makerspace open day.“Drop in and check it out, and book in a time for your induction,” he said.“Once you have done your induction, you will be able to book the equipment and come in and get creative.“If you can’t make it down on 14 August, then pop into the library when you’re next in Cleveland or find out more online.”Cleveland Library is located at the corner of Bloomfield and Middle streets, Cleveland. To find out what other great events are happening at your local library, go here.
