There’s a huge birthday coming up and Council wants the community to get involved.

Cairns will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026 and Council is looking for local community and business representatives to be part of an advisory committee to guide the year-long program of events.

The advisory committee will ensure that the program represents the diversity of the Cairns population and appropriately celebrates the achievements and highlights of the city.

The Cairns Celebrates 150 Years Advisory Committee will be chaired by Mayor Amy Eden with Cr Cathy Zeiger as deputy chair, along with representatives from the community, businesses, and key organisations, who will have the opportunity to provide advice and feedback to Council relevant to celebrations.

The term of the Advisory Committee is from February 2025 to June 2027, with a proposed membership consisting of:

2 councillors to act as Chair and Deputy Chair1 representative from the Cairns multicultural community1 representative from the Cairns youth community1 tourism representative2 representatives from prominent and long-standing business organisations in the region1 representative from the Cairns Historical Society2 First Nations representatives.Cairns Regional Council CEO or delegate

Membership to the committee will be determined through an Expression of Interest process, which is open from 1 December to 29 January 2025.
