Creative art and theatrical projects being developed for inclusion in future Cairns Festivals will share in $50,000 of Council funding.
Delivered as a partnership between Arts Queensland (State Government) and Cairns Regional Council, the latest Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants will allow projects to be developed that will add to the Cairns Festival experience.
The five successful recipients will receive $10,000 each in funding and includes a cabaret show entitle Madame After Dark by Buenos Nachos Productions that will showcase the talents of professional performers from the region's LGBTIA+ community.
Exercise guru and contemporary artist Kathy Mackey will develop LOYL (Let’s Organise Your Leisure), a vibrant art installation at the Lagoon using pool noodles, while Shaz Spannenburg will progress a multi-platformed exhibition called Textures of the Gulf – Extraordinary Patterns of an Ever-Changing Landscape.
Kimberley Greaves is set to develop a new script and theatre work called This One’s for the Girls, which focuses on women facing challenges related to reproductive health and infertility, and Media Performance Unit 66b/cell will work on CouchPark, a public art installation that will transform a small urban green space into a lively community hub.
