Redland City Council has funding available to help local groups deliver free events and activities for the city’s young people during Queensland Youth Week 2025.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the annual Redlands Coast Activate Funding Program provided local not-for-profit organisations such as community and sporting groups with up to $2000 towards their initiative.

Expressions of interest for Activate funding opened today, Monday 9 December 2024, and will close on Friday 17 January 2025.

“Council makes this funding available each year to support community led activities, events, programs and workshops for our young people during Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week,” the Mayor said.

“Funding previously awarded through the Activate program has supported everything from park jams and movie nights to parkour, gaming days, tennis clinics and weaving workshops.

“The response to Activate has been fantastic in past years and we want to see another exciting and diverse line-up of events and activities on offer for our young people again in 2025.

“Whether you’re planning a day of outdoor fun for our future sport stars or an arts and crafts workshop for young creatives, Council wants to hear from you.”

Activities funded through the program must take place during Redlands Coast Youth Week, which will be held from 5 to 13 April 2025, and be targeted at young people aged 12–24.

The Mayor said Youth Week was a great opportunity to celebrate the city’s young people and get them more engaged and involved in their local communities.

She said Activate was one of the actions identified in the Redlands Coast Young People’s Action Plan 2024–2027 adopted by Council earlier this year.

“We have more than 24,000 young people aged 12–24 on Redlands Coast, representing about 15.5 per cent of the city’s population,” the Mayor said.

“Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week is just one of the ways we are helping this cohort better connect with their peers, share ideas, collaborate on projects, sharpen their skills, and unleash their creative side.

“One of the aims is to have people participate in activities they may be unable to do normally due to time restraints or costs, so we are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has something unique to offer in 2025.”
