Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) recently endorsed the appointment of 13 community members who will serve on Council’s Regional Youth Advisory Committee (RYAC).

TRC Regional Youth Advisory Committee chair Cr James O’Shea said the incoming appointees included: Professor Andrew Hickey (University of Southern Queensland), Chantal Kelly (Queensland Police Service PCYC), Allyson Anderson (Life Without Barriers), Donita Bellette (Yellow Bridge), Clinton Shearer (Youth Justice Co-Responder team), Lorna Deadman (Toowoomba Youth Justice), Jenny Alchin (Civic Assist), Graham Phillips (Queensland Health), Scott Johnston (Headspace Toowoomba), Adam Wenitong (Adapt Mentorship), Shelley Stokes, Gail Williams and John Kelly.

Cr O’Shea congratulated the successful appointees and thanked other candidates who applied for the positions.

“I’m positive that the new committee, along with fellow elected representative Cr Gary Gardner, will represent the interests of our Region’s young people by providing strategic advice for Council’s consideration,” Cr O’Shea said.

“The committee members will draw on their respective expertise to support Council’s implementation of its Youth Strategy 2025-2030 and subsequent Youth Action Plan.

“The new committee will build on previous efforts that delivered Council’s inaugural Youth Strategy and develop ideas for recognising, engaging with, and supporting our Region’s young people.

“Our Region is home to almost 30,000 young people, who should be involved in the development of their communities and have opportunities to shape the topics and issues that matter most to them.

“The committee members will offer advice around nurturing our next generation of leaders and supporting young people as active participants in the development of our growing Region.”

Meetings will be held quarterly on the second Thursday of the month from 9-11am, starting in May 2025.

The term of the Regional Youth Advisory Committee will end in December 2027.
