More temporary parking opens at Weinam Creek

More parking is now available to the community in the Weinam Creek precinct, just in time for the busy Christmas holiday period and peak travel season on Redlands Coast. The temporary parking is being made available to support the construction stages of the Marina Redland Bay Development within the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area (PDA).Mayor Jos Mitchell said the temporary parking on Hamilton Street opened today (20 December) and would provide an additional 122 parks for the community to use throughout the duration of the project construction.“These new temporary parking areas will be beneficial for the community as we move into the busy Christmas holiday season, where we are expecting a greater number of people to visit Weinam Creek,” the Mayor said.“I have been informed the new parks are available across two areas at Hamilton Street, near the Redland Bay Police Station, and will remain open until construction of the multi-level car park is complete – most likely in 2027.“Importantly, the car parks have been installed close to local amenities, such as the Redland Bay Community Hall and Sel Outridge Park, and provide a short-term parking option for those travelling to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands via passenger ferry or vehicle barge.“Council appreciates the community’s patience as Council and Redland Investment Corporation (RIC) work together to deliver this precinct for our city at Weinam Creek featuring new public spaces, an activated foreshore, increased parking and new boating facilities.”The new temporary parking areas will be regulated for 72 hours to support parking turnover, particularly for those making short-term trips to the bay islands.Bus stops are located immediately adjacent to the temporary parks, providing direct services to the Weinam Creek ferry terminal – a two-minute trip – and inbound to places like Cleveland, Alexandra Hills and beyond.Division 5 Councillor Shane Rendalls said more temporary parking was planned to be made available during future construction stages.“I’m glad that the new parks have opened in time for the Christmas holidays, as we naturally see an increase in visitors to the Weinam Creek precinct and more people wanting to travel to the islands at this time of year,” Cr Rendalls said. For more information on the temporary parking arrangements, visit the Council Your Say page.Redland City Council provides a suite of services to 166,873 residents and more than 63,000 residential households across Redlands Coast.
