Burdekin Shire Council is undertaking an audit of residential and commercial bins to identify waste disposal trends.Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council had engaged a company to undertake the two-week audit of general waste, recycling and green waste bins.“The audit will involve collecting, sorting and weighing the contents of bins from a sample of rural and residential properties, as well as a number of commercial properties,” Cr McLaughlin said.“The results will then be compared to our last full waste audit of general waste and recycling bins, which was conducted in 2013, to identify waste disposal trends, including the amount of contaminated waste entering each bin.”Cr McLaughlin said the results would inform Council in designing waste education strategies to improve Burdekin recycling practices. The audit will run until Monday 15 April.
