Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Bill Ludwig and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga today toured The Caves and Mount Etna area to inspect the damage and to meet with the hard working firefighters, SES and residents.Livingstone Shire Council are providing support to the Caves Community with the delivery of a diesel fuel trailer along with two 30,000 Lt water tankers to replenish water supplies at the Capricorn Caverns Resort that were depleted during yesterday’s flare-up in that area.Following another flare-up due to adverse heat and wind conditions in the vicinity of the Cammoo Caves nearby residents were advised to prepare to leave as a precaution and some did self-evacuate.A joint briefing between the Livingstone Local Disaster Management Group, District Disaster Coordination Centre and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Regional Operations Centre advice was held this afternoon at 4.30pm.The updated advice at that time was that with the combined assistance of 17 ground appliances and aerial water bombing the active fires have once again been contained.
